I’ve been involved in charity work for most of my adult life. I served as the President of an organization called Life Preservers for two terms. Life Preservers was committed to teen suicide prevention. We worked directly with the Attorney General’s Office, (AR), to create programs and venues to teach coping skills to troubled teens. Our message: suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
I was the Chairman of Gifts in Kind for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY), for two years. Hotel rooms, conference rooms and food and drink services had to be arranged for more than 100 students participating in our annual youth seminars. I worked with local and regional businesses to have all products and services donated. These seminars were designed to mentor the future leaders of America to always give back to their communities.
Working with the Quantum House has been most rewarding. I know, personally, how important the services they provide are. When loved ones are in the hospital, the last thing family members need to worry about is lodging. Quantum House provides ‘a caring place to call home’ for families while their children are being treated for a serious medical condition in Palm Beach County.
Books for a Buck has raised almost $10,000 in donations for the Quantum House in our first two years of operation. We thank everyone that has donated books or purchased books to make this happen. We look forward to many years of helping Quantum House.
